Leeds tipped to take sensational new transfer stance this summer

It is highly likely that Leeds United will still be a Premier League outfit come next season, with the Whites amassing 40 points from their first 34 games.

However, after Leeds’ last stint in the Premier League under Marcelo Bielsa, they will be aware that the second season can sometimes be even more difficult than the first season.

This is why the 49ers must ensure they adequately back Daniel Farke in the upcoming summer transfer window, to further the gap between themselves and the three teams that come up from the Championship.

Recent reports suggest that in order to do this, Leeds will be implementing a new transfer stance this summer, which is completley different from the one they implemented last year.

Former Premier League chief makes incredible Leeds transfer admission

For all the good work Farke has done this season, if Leeds stay up, they cannot get too ahead of themselves.

Whilst pushing to solidify themselves in midtable would be nice, ultimately, even if the Whites finish 17th next season and just avoid the drop, it will be another fantastic achievement.

Former Everton chief Keith Wyness recently claimed that this summer, he expects Leeds to reinforce their squad with fewer players, but he expects that these couple of additions will be brought in for big fees.

Speaking to Football Insider, Wyness explained, “We’re looking at three or four, in my opinion, maximum. They are going to stick with Daniel Farke, which I think is the right decision. As any manager would do, he knows his players, he knows his squad, and they are going to need a bit more quality.

“That’s what they’ve been missing slightly, because they’ve been close in a lot of games, but not close to be able to turn it into points, either into draws or wins. So it’s a marginal game, and they’re not far away from it. So I just think three or four bits of quality.”

Wyness continued, “We’ll be seeing some higher prices paid for some good talent coming in. About this summer transfer window coming up, it’s going to be a buyer’s market. I don’t think there’s going to be as much money around as there was last year.

“I expect less activity, but I do expect higher quality and some better deals to be done. Leeds will be near the front of that queue. They’ll be working right now on their targets.”

Data suggests this would be a very different approach from Leeds

Prior to the campaign, the 49ers knew multiple areas of Farke’s squad needed reinforcing, meaning Leeds had to fork out relatively modest fees for rotation players such as Sebastiaan Bornauw.

United also had to delve into the free agent market to recruit two new strikers in the form of Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Lukas Nmecha.

  • In total, Leeds signed 10 players last season for a total of around £100million
  • The biggest fee they forked out was £19.9million for Anton Stach if potential add-ons are met

So for Leeds supporters, whilst there may not be as many new faces to welcome at Elland Road this summer, those who do arrive could be signing for a more premium fee, like Stach and Noah Okafor did nearly a year ago.

If Leeds can add four more players to their squad of this calibre, then you would certainly be confident in United’s chances of avoiding the drop next season.
