There are many player exits some Leeds United fans regret over the years. Some players left Elland Road because the offers that came in were too good; the likes of Raphinha and Kalvin Phillips come to mind.
And in the last two seasons, it was painful for fans to see Archie Gray, Georginio Rutter and Crysencio Summerville go after they all combined to give a solid season in the Championship.
Daniel Farke was a solid addition by the ownership; he was brought in to win promotion to the Premier League and he accomplished that within just three seasons. His coaching has been brilliant sometimes, and his bold decisions almost always pay off.
Leeds United set to receive financial boost from Charlie Cresswell sale
One thing that still follows the German till today is his man management. During his time at the club, he has reportedly fallen out with quite a number of players. Just last season it was revealed that he fell out with Max Wober and that is why the Austrian barely played. Joe Gelhardt was also one of the players who never really got a chance under the Leeds boss, but the forward is proving himself in the Championship.
Charlie Cresswell is arguably the most high profile player to leave the club after falling out with Farke. After a brilliant season out on loan, the young defender came back to Elland Road with dreams of becoming a fixture in the first team. However, he barely saw any first team opportunities and was eventually sold.
Since leaving England, he has honed his craft and is one of the best young center backs in Europe. Per Sky Sports Germany, Cresswell could join Wolfsburg this month, and according to the Yorkshire Evening Post, Leeds still have a 15% sell-on clause. Which means they get that percentage from the profit Toulouse make from the deal.
Was selling the young defender a mistake?
It depends on how you look at the situation; when Cresswell was ready to be a starter he had both Joe Rodon and Pascal Struijk ahead of him. The duo had experience and chemistry, and Leeds were a solid team so there was no reason to break them up.
However, where the club made a mistake was not including a buy-back clause for a clearly talented player. He would have been a great fit for this team, but sometimes letting players go when they want to play is the best decision.
