Leeds United have revealed who they want to sign in January – this will annoy fans

Leeds United have a huge task ahead of them when they return from the international break this weekend. They suffered an unfortunate loss to Sean Dyche’s Nottingham Forest side before the break.

The Brighton and Forest games were a rare opportunity for Leeds to pick up points ahead of a daunting run of fixtures. When the Whites return to action, they face Aston Villa, Chelsea, Manchester City and Liverpool in their next four games. And it has been reported that these matches will be the last chance for Daniel Farke to get it right or face the sack.

The German could be given his marching orders as early as the first week of December after Leeds play Liverpool. But from now till then, anything can happen.

Leeds United reveal major January target

If Leeds do manage to keep afloat till the end of the year, the January transfer window will play a key part in their survival. The owners failed to deliver at the end of the last window, and now they have a chance to make amends in January. According to information from Football Insider, a wide forward is the priority for the Whites when the window comes around.

Harry Wilson Career Goals and Assists
Club Games Goals Assists
Crewe Alexandra 7 0 0
Liverpool 2 0 0
Hull City 14 7 3
Derby County 46 17 4
Bournemouth 35 7 1
Cardiff City 38 7 11
Fulham 158 27 33

And it is no surprise that Fulham’s Harry Wilson has been linked. The Welshman has been a solid player at the Premier League level for years. Leeds tried to sign him on deadline day, but a deal fell through. Now that it looks like the club have their eyes set on getting a wide player, Wilson could fit the bill – his contract is up next summer, so the club can get him on a cut-price deal.

Leeds need a striker, not a winger

Fans were right about what the team needed in the summer, and they are also right when it comes to this. Leeds need a striker more than they need a wide player. Unfortunately, injury has depleted the squad depth in wide areas, but with Dan James and Wilfried Gnonto back, it could provide a huge boost. Noah Okafor is also doing his best, but he just need support when the team push forward.

Leeds United Attacking Stats 2025/26 Season
Statistic Value
Goals 10
Expected Goals (xG) 12.70
Big Chances Created 22
Big Chances Missed 17

A striker would solve a lot of problems in this side; Leeds have created enough this season, what they lack is someone to put the ball in the net. Dominic Calvert-Lewin has been the biggest culprit, missing five big chances in the league this season. Lukas Nmecha and Joel Piroe have not had their shooting boots either. If the 49ers want to splash the cash, a proven striker needs to be first on the list.
