Leeds United star hints at summer Elland Road exit: “My job is done here”

With the season drawing closer to an end, Leeds United will have a lot of decisions to make in the summer. The Whites already have a plan heading into the transfer window.

Reports have emerged that the club is planning a list of targets heading into the summer. The team will need significant reinforcements if they are to have a better season than this year. Last summer’s recruitment played a huge part in the team staying up in the Premier League. Player contracts will also be a talking point as the end of the season draws closer; Ethan Ampadu and Pascal Struijk are up for renewals after very good seasons.

This summer could also see some potential exits, as some contracts are set to expire in the coming months. Leeds United could lose up to three first team goalkeepers in the summer unless Karl Darlow, Alex Cairns and Illan Meslier’s contracts are renewed.

Sam Byram is also set to leave Elland Road this summer. The fullback has been a part of the squad this season, and has made just four appearances in total.

“Yeah, I think get the job done here. You know, I’m confident that, you know, we’ll see that out. And then for me, you know, I still think I’ve got a few years ahead playing football.” Byram said on the official Leeds United podcast.

“I’d like to play regularly if I can. It’s something off the back of before coming here, I had a lot of years on the sideline with injuries. So I think for me to get myself in a position where it’s the best I’ve felt physically, I think that’s something I really want to fulfil, play as much as I can.”

Sam Byram has been a good servant under Daniel Farke

Daniel Farke gave Byram a second chance to have a stint at Elland Road; signing him after impressing as a trialist in pre-season. Many expected the 32-year old to leave last summer, but the club triggered a 12-month extension to keep him around. The fullback started 45 games over the last two Championship campaigns and has been a solid backup option. He has found game time hard to come by this season, with the signing of James Justin. Sam Byram has done a great job at the club and will be remembered for his contribution when he eventually leaves Elland Road.
