Leeds United has been hit with waves of bad news since the end of last week. The club’s Premier League status has been secured after West Ham lost over the weekend.
Which means the 49ers can start preparing for another season in the top flight. In the build up to Monday’s draw with Spurs, Leeds United were hit by some huge injury news as Noah Okafor was ruled out for the next two league games. Jayden Bogle also picked up a knock and missed the game in London, and could be out for the Brighton game.
On Tuesday, reports emerged that Pascal Struijk was set for surgery after consistent hip problems. The defender was a doubt to play on Monday night, but started the game and was taken off early in the second half. He will miss the rest of the season as he is set to undergo surgery in Lithuania.
Leeds United star’s comments spark fear over season-ending injury
Gabriel Gudmundsson has not been in the first team for a couple of weeks since picking up an injury. The left back, who had been an available and consistent performer all season is currently out with a back injury he picked up in the FA Cup semi-final.
News emerging on Wednesday suggests a bleak outlook for the Leeds United star. In his interview with Hallandsporten following his callup to Sweden’s World Cup squad, he failed to give an update on his current injury status.
“It’s nothing that I can comment on,” he said.
“I went a little behind. But I have had a good dialogue with the national team management and will be fully ready when the World Cup squad gathers on May 27th.”
After having missed the past few games, many are doubting that the defender plays again this season as he avoids risks ahead of the World Cup.
Gabriel Gudmundsson reflects on his first season in England
The 27-year old has had a fantastic campaign in England, slotting straight into the first team and becoming a reliable player at Elland Road. He did not seem to be fazed by the transition from French football to English football either. He spoke on his first season with the Premier League club:
“It will be tough to go straight from a season in the Premier League to playing in the World Cup. But at the same time it is a big dream for me,” he added.
“I had a great season in Leeds where we got the contract and then getting to hang out with the national team in Mexico and the USA will be crazy fun.”
