Swans boss praises Leeds after Wednesday’s result

Swansea City boss Michael Duff praised Leeds United and their home record after his side lost 3-1 on Wednesday night.

Two goals from former Swansea players Joel Piroe and Dan James and a goal from Georginio Rutter was enough to seal all three points for Leeds. Jamie Paterson scored the only goal for Swansea.

The Whites remain the only team in the Championship yet to lose a home game this season, after Thursday night’s result, they close the gap on league leaders Leicester City to eight points.

Swans boss Michael Duff hailed the quality of Leeds’ attacking display during the post match press conference:

“The performance was really good. Performance excellent. Poor goals at poor times. Warning shot in the first minute and then concede within few minutes. Last kick of the first half then it’s a different game in the second half. Asked the players to show bravery. Played through them a lot. Undone by PL quality. First goal, Summerville, very good, not an excuse. Sometimes have to just say it’s a very good goal.

Carl’s not made a save of note. Accepting the defeat, but not accepting it. Learned from last Saturday today. Little bit of quality let us down.”

Duff also added that Leeds impressive home record at Elland Road made the game much more difficult for his side:

“No point coming here and playing 5-4-1 with mean behind the ball for 90 minutes. You will lose. Had to play through them. Thought we did well against the press. Come here and showed personality. We are where we are. Difficult place to come in the whole league. Challenge for the players is to show that courage and bravery week in, week out.”
