The former Elland Road favourite Leeds United could sign to solve issues

Leeds United started the summer window looking at some very ambitious targets. From Julian Brandt to Shea Charles, it looked like the team were looking at a thorough revamp.

Daniel Farke did mention before last season ended that this summer would be important to the team staying in the top flight.

Many promoted teams suffer from not building upon the squad in the second campaign. This happened under Marcelo Bielsa, when Leeds gave him almost nothing to work with after surviving the first year.

So the club did the needful, bringing in quality signings across the team’s spine.

They added a new goalkeeper, improved the defence and added some quality in attack in addition to bringing decent depth on board.

Leeds United could look to former favourite to fix issues

However, one area they failed to address was the midfield.

And this would lead to eyebrows raised among Leeds fans especially when Shea Charles was a serious target. But after Leeds United missed out on signing him, they did not seek out an alternative.

This season will see Daniel Farke work with the same group from last year and that could be a bit problematic.

Ilia Gruev recently returned from a long layoff, but is not ready yet for first team action. Then there is also the situation around Sean Longstaff, who is tipped to leave the club.

In the scenario where Gruev never hits the heights of last year, and Longstaff leave in January, the Whites could look to a familiar face.

Archie Gray has still not established himself at Tottenham Hotspur since leaving years ago. He is still a great talent in the middle of the park, and could be an easy fix to the club’s current problems.

How realistic would a move be ?

Quite frankly, everyone has accepted that Gray will not become a starting midfielder in that Spurs team.

There has been so many changes around the club, and just this summer they spent over £150 million on new midfielders. Gray is way down the pecking order and when he plays, it is usually out of position.

Leeds could pounce and take this opportunity to sign him back.

Spurs would be open to selling for a decent fee, given the fact that they could have to balance their books after a summer of spending £300 million. Archie Gray would also be a great fit in this side under Daniel Farke.

He is great on the ball and has incredible work rate, him partnering Ethan Ampadu and Anton Stach will definitely be something the Elland Road crowd would love to see.
