Saturday was another opportunity for Leeds United to get some points on the board. Last time out, the Whites lost in a painful fashion to Newcastle United.
They were leading 3-2 before added time, but lost control of the game and conceded two late goals as they ended up with zero points. Leeds managed to bounce back in the FA Cup with a win over Derby County. The game saw Daniel Farke rest a lot of first team stars as they prepared for their game against Fulham.
Both sides knew the game was not going to be easy; both sides played a tight game at Craven Cottage, which was only decided by a late own goal from Gabriel Gudmundsson.
Fulham boss gives verdict after Leeds United game
This time around, the game took a much different direction. Like most games at Elland Road; Leeds were in control. They put the away side after pressure and created chance after chance. Poor finishing let them down, and they could have easily ended the game with three goals. Lukas Nmecha eventually scored the winner in stoppage time as Daniel Farke’s side sealed all three points.
After the game, Marco Silva admitted that his side were poor. He slammed his team for not creating enough in the game:
“We knew that it was going to be tough, the demands here (at Elland Road) creates for you… Second half, we didn’t perform at our level at all.
“We conceded late in the game, but they had chances before that. We didn’t create one chance in the second half.”
According to the statistics, the Whites created five big chances in the match and Fulham failed to create single one.
Game was a huge positive for the club’s survival hopes
Even though Leeds missed many chances on Saturday afternoon, they way they played against a very compact Fulham side just shows that this team are capable of a lot of good things. They even managed to score three goals away from home at St. James’ Park last time out.
Farke had been saying since the start of the season that luck needs to fall his team’s way for them to get results. Now, the results are showing, and hopefully they can continue till the end of the season. Goalscoring is still a question mark, and that could be why the 49ers have sought the services of Wolves striker Jorgen Strand Larsen.
