49ers at risk of being humiliated during crucial Crystal Palace vs Leeds United clash

Leeds United travel to take on Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Sunday, with the relegation battle surrounding the Whites heating up.

Tottenham continue to self-destruct, with Wayne Rooney advising former Leeds striker Robbie Keane to avoid the managerial job there, should he be offered it.

However, whilst another team like Spurs being dragged into the relegation battle does help Leeds, Daniel Farke will know that his side must focus on themselves during the run-in if they want to stay in the top flight.

But ahead of the crucial clash with Palace, the 49ers will likely be even more nervous than usual going into the game.

Transfer blunder could come back to bite Leeds against Crystal Palace

It was well documented throughout the January transfer window that Leeds were interested in bringing Jorgen Strand Larsen from Wolves to Elland Road.

However, the Norwegian striker ultimately ended up at Palace, and for the 49ers’ sake, they will hope a player they publicly admired does not deal them a major blow in their hopes of surviving in the top flight by scoring or playing well.

Strand Larsen has not set the world alight since his move to South London, with three goals in seven appearances in all competitions since his £45million move.

But if he were to score against Leeds this weekend, questions would certainly be asked by supporters as to why Leeds could not get a deal for the forward over the line in January before his move to Palace.

Data suggests Leeds should be confident ahead of the Crystal Palace game

Back when the two sides met at Elland Road in December, Leeds absolutely thrashed Palace 4-1.

Farke will be hoping his side can replicate that performance this weekend, with the United players surely taking confidence from how they played against the current FA Cup holders last time out.

  • In the reverse fixture, Leeds created a whopping 2.67 xG compared to Palace’s 1.56 xG
  • The Whites had four big chances during the game, whilst Palace had just two
  • Leeds had 20 shots whilst limiting the visitors to just nine (Sofascore)

Whilst it is unlikely that Leeds will similarly dominate proceedings again, the reverse fixture proved that United have more than enough quality to cause Palace problems, and there is no reason why Farke and Co. should not be confident that their side is capable of beating them at Selhurst Park.
