Leeds United have gotten off to a strong start this season, something that has surprised a lot of people. The Whites are looking to build on the work they did last year.

Not only did they avoid relegation, they finished 14th above some big clubs like Spurs and Nottingham Forest.

The 49ers went hard in the summer transfer window, targeting players that will help the team reach the next level. Leeds signed James Trafford, Harry Wilson, Tarik Muharemovic and Nico Elvedi to help boost the squad.

And seeing how well the team have done this year, there are talks that Europe could be in their sights.

But for now, Farke’s side will continue to take things slowly following their impressive start to the campaign.

Daniel Farke’s future has been a major talking point at Leeds United in the last couple of weeks. Reports now claim that the German will pen a new deal after a breakthrough with the ownership.

His deal was set to expire in 2027, but he will now sign an extension.

There are some players in the first team squad who are out of contract in the next eight months, and January provides a huge chance for them to leave. In January, players are allowed to agree to pre-contracts if they plan to leave as free agents.

Leeds have Ilia Gruev and Lukas Nmecha out of contract next summer, with nothing confirmed about their future.

According to Monday’s print edition of BILD, Bundesliga side FC Koln are interested in signing Nmecha. The club are very keen on signing a striker in January, with Thijs Dallinga and Ragnar Ache ruled out for months.

Koln sporting director Thomas Kessler has confirmed that the January window could be active, with BILD tipping Lukas Nmecha as a ‘significantly more interesting candidate’.

Lukas Nmecha’s contract will be a huge factor in any transfer plans

As things stand, Nmecha remains in a standoff with Leeds; there has been no advancement in talks. It is unclear if a deal can be reached at this point.

Per reports, the striker wants more minutes in his role going forward before he would agree to a new deal. The German has been a solid rotation option since arriving last summer.

He has been a very capable deputy for Calvert-Lewin in most games.

If Koln are serious about a deal, then January would be the perfect time to sign him. But the striker’s deal running out next summer could complicate things; clubs are usually unwilling to spend money on players who are set to go for free.

But if the Bundesliga side’s injuries are hampering them, then a move is very plausible.
