According to the Yorkshire Evening Post, West Bromwich Albion have joined the race to sign Joe Gelhardt.
The Baggies want to sign Leeds United striker Joe Gelhardt on loan this January but will face competition from several Championship teams. Wigan Athletic were reportedly the favourites to sign the 20-year old, but West Brom have joined the race.
Gelhardt has only started one game this season, and with the arrival and Sinisterra, Gnonto and Rutter, he is dropping further down the pecking order. The Englishman joined Leeds as a teenager from Wigan as a teenager. He made 18 appearances in the Championship for the Latics in 2019 and is said to want a return to the club on loan: “Gelhardt, who is an England youth international, will be given the option to decide which club he wants to join. Although a move back to the DW Stadium isn’t completely done yet, it appears a return to familiar surroundings is of particular interest.“
The report from YEP claim that the choice of club will be down to Gelhardt, with a keen eye on his development.
