Leeds United enter the January transfer window with a clearer plan, prioritising attacking and defensive upgrades as they look to strengthen their bid for Premier League survival.
An upturn in form has steadied the season and relieved some of the pressure on Daniel Farke, yet there are still question marks over the make-up of the squad as the campaign reaches its midpoint.
Those concerns have been reinforced by tactical adjustments. The switch to a 5-3-2 system has heightened the need for an additional attacker, while also prompting Leeds to consider reinforcements at the back.
Farke has been keen to add one versatile attacking midfielder, and the Leeds boss may now have an opportunity to land a long-term target for a cut-price fee in the winter window.
Leeds United target Gustavo Hamer is available for a paltry fee in January
Farke has been trying to sign Hamer for Leeds since he became manager at Elland Road in 2023. The German is a big fan of the Sheffield United attacking midfielder
The Dutchman has 18 months left on his contract, and he has been linked with a move away from Bramall Lane in the ongoing winter transfer window.
According to journalist Ben Jacobs, Trabzonspor, Sevilla and Cremonese are among the clubs that are considering snapping up the attacking midfielder this month.
Sheffield United have so far been reluctant to lose him. However, a deal is likely to be on the cards this month as Hamer is keen to move on from the Championship club.
It has been claimed that the Blades could agree to sell the midfielder for as little as £6m in the ongoing transfer window. Chris Wilder wants funds to add more quality to his squad, and Hamer’s departure could be key to his plans.
Leeds must act to sign Hamer
Hamer has been on Leeds’ radar for a couple of years, and this could be their chance to sign a player who could add more depth to their attacking resources.
The Dutchman has already played in the Premier League and was one of the shining lights of the Sheffield United team, who were relegated a couple of years back.

At £6m, he would be a steal and would add that extra attacking midfielder that Farke has been keen to sign since the summer transfer window.
Hamer can play both in the attacking three midfield spots in the team and can even play behind the striker in the starting eleven.
This would not be a huge financial gamble, and Hamer would likely prefer to play in the Premier League than move to Turkey or Italy in the winter window.
