Leeds United boss Daniel Farke has been a very big fan of Gustavo Hamer for the past few seasons. He saw the attacking midfielder as the ideal piece for his team a few years ago, but Sheffield United rejected all the offers.
Farke ended up using Brenden Aaronson in the number 10 role, producing one of Leeds’ best campaigns in recent years as the club won promotion to the Premier league. Aaronson had the best season of his career, scoring nine league goals – helping the attack score 95 goals combined.
The need for a dynamic attacking piece continued into this summer, when Leeds were in the market for one. Names like Bilal El Khannouss and Facundo Buonanotte were pursued, but the Whites ended up empty handed eventually.

According to Sportsboom, Leeds could be back for Gustavo Hamer in January. Sheffield United are in poor form this season, sitting bottom of the Championship after nine games. Blades boss Chris Wilder spoke last month about how the team needs quality to compete, and hinted that the club could make sales to get funds to make new signings to get out of their current situation:
“I know who takes us forward and who doesn’t. And there’ll be an honest conversation with that.
“And hopefully people, I’d like to think, will respect my contribution to that and my thought process on that.
“That’s what gets us out of this situation and what moves us forward. So, yes, there are going to be conversations with the owners.”
Is Sheffield United man needed in the team?
Hamer’s club form this season has mirrored how Sheffield United are faring in the Championship – zero goals scored and just one assist provided. A sharp decline from the sort of form that saw him crowned Championship player of the season last year. In his current state, it would make no sense splashing the cash to sign him.
- Gustavo Hamer’s creative statistics this season: 1 assist, 2.38 expected assists (xA), 4 big chances created
However, he has shown in recent years that he can be productive in the right environment. Unfortunately for him, Daniel Farke has two midfielders providing the dynamism and chance creation this season – Sean Longstaff and Anton Stach. Making a summer splash on the Blades star would be totally unadvisable.
