Leeds United claimed a huge result at Old Trafford, beating Manchester United 2-1 to move six points clear of the relegation zone.
It was their first league win at Old Trafford in over 45 years, and one that could play a big role in keeping them in the Premier League.
Noah Okafor grabbed both goals in a dominant first-half display, with Leeds creating plenty more chances they probably should have taken.
Lisandro Martinez saw red after pulling Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s ponytail in the second half, and although Casemiro pulled one back for United, Leeds held on to secure all three points.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin reacts to Lisandro Martinez’s red card
Lisandro Martinez’s sending off came out of nowhere when the referee, Paul Tierney, stopped the game and reviewed the incident.
The Manchester United defender pulled at the hair of Dominic Calvert-Lewin, which was deemed violent conduct under the rules of the game.
Calvert-Lewin stressed that he told the referee that he felt his hair was pulled. However, he is unsure where the defender meant it and insists that he holds no grudges.
Calvert-Lewin said on Sky Sports: “I don’t know, I don’t make the rules.
“I felt my hair get pulled, told the ref, he makes the decisions. Unfortunate for him, whether he meant it or not.
“I hold no grudges.”
Leeds are a win away from safety
That win at Old Trafford could prove massive for more than just morale, as it also put six points between Leeds and Tottenham in the relegation zone.
With only six games left and Spurs still without a league win this year, that gap suddenly looks pretty significant.
Leeds also have a favourable run-in against Wolves, Burnley and Tottenham, which makes it difficult to see them slipping into the bottom three now.
Realistically, one more win should be enough to all but secure survival, and based on how they’re playing, you wouldn’t bet against them getting it.
