Leeds United managed to walk away from Old Trafford with a huge result on Monday night. Coming into the game, the Whites were seen as the underdogs.
Daniel Farke’s side had picked just two points from their last four league games. Michael Carrick’s side wanted to strengthen their grip on a European place and had only lost one league game in their last five. There was a lot at stake as both teams had all to play for in this rivalry game.
Leeds surprised everyone by taking the lead just five minutes into the game as Noah Okafor pounced on a poor headed clearance to give his team the lead. Over 20 minutes later, Okafor doubled the lead with a stunning finish. The Whites were able to hold on for the rest of the second half, even with the Red Devils pulling one back late in the game.
Jamie Carragher praises Leeds United performance at Old Trafford
Leeds United managed a surprise result on the road, and a lot of it was down to how well they played in the first half. The Whites were all over Michael Carrick’s side, pressing them and causing them all sorts of problems in transition. They could have even gotten a third goal, but the finishing let them down.
Jamie Carragher praised Leeds for how well they played in the first 45 minutes, saying that it will send a message to other teams in the relegation battle.
“They’ve been a breath of fresh air in the Premier League, they’ve been fantastic. How they performed in that first half, I think, will send a shiver down the spines of everyone in that relegation battle. They didn’t just hang on in a game like that; they absolutely bossed Manchester United in that first half.”

Victory should inspire confidence for the rest of the season
Monday night’s win should be a huge boost in confidence for Leeds United. They played so well and executed the game plan to perfection to secure the win. Now, they need to carry that mentality into their remaining games, knowing that if they can get results, they will go over the line. Spurs are in trouble, and Nottingham Forest still have to worry about European football. If Daniel Farke is able to rally the troops, Elland Road will experience Premier League football for another year.
