Exclusive: Leeds United accelerate move for 28-year-old striker as next signing

Leeds United are still keen to bring in another striker this summer as Daniel Farke looks to take some of the pressure off Dominic Calvert-Lewin ahead of the new Premier League season.

The former Everton forward enjoyed an excellent first campaign at Elland Road, scoring 14 league goals to help Leeds secure their top-flight status. But when Calvert-Lewin struggled for goals, Leeds often lacked another reliable option to step up, highlighting the need for greater depth in attack.

That makes another centre-forward one of the club’s biggest priorities before the window closes. Leeds want someone capable of challenging Calvert-Lewin for a starting spot, while also giving Farke the option of playing the pair together when needed.

The new striker must also be capable of leading the line when Calvert-Lewin is unavailable. Adding that kind of competition and cover would give Farke more attacking options and reduce Leeds’ reliance on one player over the course of a demanding Premier League season.

Leeds United step up pursuit of Premier League-proven striker

Leeds United are still looking to add another goalkeeper following James Trafford’s arrival, while bringing in an attacking midfielder remains a major priority this summer.

The Whites also need to strengthen at centre-back, with Sebastiaan Bornauw expected to leave for Hamburg, creating a vacancy in the position.

However, finding another striker is arguably the biggest priority, with Leeds keen to take some of the goalscoring pressure off Dominic Calvert-Lewin during the 2026/27 season.

Zian Flemming is one player who has been strongly linked with a move to Elland Road since the end of last season, and the forward is expected to leave Burnley following their relegation.

Burnley are expecting offers for the forward, and sources have exclusively told The Leeds Press that the Whites are now stepping up their efforts to bring the Dutchman to Elland Road.

Flemming scored 11 Premier League goals in 21 starts last season for a poor Burnley side, and Leeds are now pressing forward with their attempts to take him to Elland Road.

His Premier League pedigree and experience make him one of Leeds United’s top striker targets this summer.

Flemming’s versatility also appeals to Daniel Farke, who could play him alongside Calvert-Lewin or as his replacement up front.

The Dutchman can also play as a number 10, which should give Farke greater flexibility and options in his team selection.

Zian Flemming would be a solid signing for Leeds

The 28-year-old Dutchman was Burnley’s top scorer in the Premier League last season, scoring 11 goals in just 29 appearances.

Flemming managed to stand out despite playing in a struggling side, which has naturally attracted attention from several Premier League clubs.

Only Dominic Calvert-Lewin scored more league goals than Flemming among Leeds’ current squad last season, while Noah Okafor finished three goals behind him.

With Premier League experience already under his belt and a proven ability to find the net, Flemming looks like exactly the kind of opportunity Leeds must make the most of before the transfer window closes.

Is he really what we want and would he be content as first reserve ? Piroe is possibly a better finisher and Joseph is much younger.

Flemming would be a great signing for us, i rekon we should go all out for him myself and absolutely walk away from Paixao, who’s made it more than clear he doesn’t want to come to ER. We need players of his quality yes, but only if the really want to play for us.
