Leeds United continue to be named in the recent scandal in the EFL Championship playoffs. The spygate scandal has dominated the headlines over the past few weeks.

Back in 2019, Marcelo Bielsa and Leeds were fined just £200,000 after being found guilty of spying on opponents. Seven years later, another scandal has hit the Championship.

Middlesbrough accused Southampton of sending a team official to spy on their training ahead of their playoff game. They then lost the match, but the Saints have since been charged over the incident.

Southampton have now been thrown out of the playoffs after a ruling by an independent commission. Middlesbrough will take their place ahead of the playoff final, with Hull City as their opponents.

Simon Jordan references Leeds United in spygate controversy

Even though Leeds United have had their punishment years ago, they continue to be named in referenced in this current scandal. Many think it was unfair for Southampton to be expelled from the playoffs over this incident.

Simon Jordan is the latest to reference the Whites in this spygate scandal.

“I think it’s a very strange decision.” he said on talkSPORT.

“I mean, you have to go some way from Leeds getting sanctioned in 2019 for £200,000 to expulsion from a game worth £250m.

“That’s some way to leap.

“There have always been good faith rules in the EFL.

“To think that they adjusted the rules to specifically cater for this sort of circumstances – what Leeds did in 2019.

“But then the move dial from a circumstance that fined somebody £200,000 to somebody being booted out of the playoff final that could be worth £250m.”

Bizarre that people are still referencing Leeds in this scandal

Marcelo Bielsa and Leeds were charged and sanctioned years ago, they have fulfilled their punishment. So for pundits and people in football to keep referencing them is quite ridiculous at this point.

The EFL have their reasons for kicking Southampton out of the playoffs, and that has nothing to do with Leeds United.

The Saints were charged, and investigated with their punishment being delivered. As to how any of what happened in 2019 factors here is a non-argument.

Daniel Farke and his men have to focus amidst all this noise as they prepare for the final day of the season. Getting a win and wrapping the campaign on a high should be the only mission the club should focus on.
