“I have to say Leeds” – Manchester United legend says Leeds United will be relegated

Leeds United have given themselves a great opportunity to still be a Premier League side come next season with just seven games remaining.

Despite a difficult trip to Old Trafford up next, Daniel Farke’s men have enough winnable home games that should give them the required points they need to stay up if they manage to pick up wins against Wolves and Burnley, with any extra draws away from home being a welcome bonus.

Leeds currently have a four-point gap to 18th-placed West Ham, who themselves have a relegation six-pointer of their own this weekend against Wolves.

However, despite the Whites currently sitting in 15th, a former Manchester United player has tipped Leeds to go down.

Teddy Sheringham predicts Leeds will go down

As well as playing for Man United during his playing career, Sheringham also played for West Ham, Tottenham and Nottingham Forest, who are all embroiled in the relegation battle with Leeds.

When speaking exclusively to BestBettingSites, Sheringham was asked who he tips to go down out of West Ham, Spurs and Forest, to which the former England international gave an interesting answer.

“I have to say Leeds! They’re all my former clubs, so I don’t want to see any of them go down. I’ve still got a soft spot for all of them. Obviously, Tottenham and West Ham are the ones I’d want to stay up, so if you’re pushing me, I’d say Forest — but I still think Leeds have as good a chance as all of them.

“They’re all very similar. I wouldn’t want to put my house on any of them staying up. At this stage, it’s all about scoring goals. Who’s got the potential to score more? At the moment, none of them are convincing in that respect.”

Sheringham continued: “With seven games to go, you probably need nine points. To do that, you might need nine or ten goals.
Are you going to get that from any of those teams? I don’t think so. So whoever can’t score, or keeps missing chances when they come, is going to come unstuck.”

With Leeds ending their barren run in front of goal against Premier League opposition against West Ham, and Dominic Calvert-Lewin getting back on the scoresheet, hopefully, this gives them the confidence boost they need for the run-in.

Opta’s data suggests West Ham will go down

Despite West Ham having a resurgence as of late under Nuno Espirito Santo, Opta’s supercomputer suggests they are the side that will go down out of the four clubs battling to avoid the drop.

  • Opta has given West Ham a 58.68% chance of going down
  • Spurs are said to be the next most likely side to go down, with a 26.38% chance
  • Forest and Leeds have much less chance of going down in comparison, with 8.57% and 6.51% chances of going down, respectively

If Leeds can pick up a win against Sheringham’s former side, Man United, that will go a long way when it comes to proving their former player’s relegation prediction wrong.

However, this will not be easy, and Farke’s side will know that their remaining home fixtures have the potential to make or break their season.
