James Milner speaks on Leeds United after retirement confirmed
In a long statement, James Milner reflected on his long career, and his achievements.
Per Sky Sports, Brighton offered him another year with his contract to expire next month. However, the 40-year old decided it was time to retire.
Milner began his career at Leeds United as a young player, making his first team debut in November 2002. The Whites were the first club he mentioned in his message after confirming retirement.
“From making my debut for Leeds United, who I supported growing up, at the age of 16 and becoming the Premier League’s youngest scorer, I could never have dreamed of the journey I’ve been on, right through to not being able to lift my foot last year and then coming back to be part of Brighton qualifying for Europe for the second time in their history at the age of 40,” Milner said.
“To have gone on to represent Newcastle, Aston Villa, Man City, Liverpool and Brighton and not forgetting a memorable month at Swindon, has been a huge privilege
“I’ve been fortunate enough to experience some unforgettable moments, from fighting for survival to winning trophies, playing in Europe, and representing my country. But more than anything, it is the people and friendships I’ve made throughout my time in the game I will cherish forever.”

Could Elland Road return be on the cards?
As a childhood fan of the club, and having gone through the system at Thorp Arch, you cannot rule out his return.
Former Leeds players Aaron Lennon and Jonny Howson returned to take up coaching the youth teams over the last few seasons.
Milner said in an interview with talkSPORT during the season that he has done his coaching badges, so a return to Leeds United is certainly a possibility.
But for now, fans should be celebrating a legend of English football and a proud former player who went on to achieve greatness.
