Leeds United are set to play their last game of the season at Elland Road today, and it could be the last time we may see some of the players in the Whites.
Daniel Farke and his team will look to sign off from their home season with a win and three points when they host Brighton today in the penultimate league game of the season.
This will also be the final time the fans will see a few of the players in Leeds colours, as there are expected to be changes to the squad over the summer.
However, three players, who were vital to Leeds getting promoted last year, are also likely to make their last appearance for Leeds at Elland Road later today against the Seagulls.
3 Leeds United stalwarts set to say their goodbyes to Elland Road
Sam Byram
The Leeds academy product was huge in the club, earning promotion to the Premier League as his versatility came in handy for Daniel Farke in the Championship. However, Leeds signed upgrades last summer, and Byram has been reduced to a fringe role in the squad. He recently indicated that he won’t be signing a new contract, and Farke could let him make one final appearance at Elland Road from the bench today. It would allow the fans to give him a proper reception ahead of his departure.
Joel Piroe
The Surinamese striker was the Championship’s top scorer last season, and his goals powered Leeds to the Premier League. However, he has been a bit-part player this season. Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Lukas Nmecha are ahead of him, and he has largely been reduced to a role from the bench. He is still waiting to score his first Premier League goal and has two more games to achieve that dream. Piroe is almost certain to leave Elland Road, and Farke is likely to give him one last chance at home to get a proper reception from the supporters today.
Wilfried Gnonto
Daniel Farke’s decision to change systems in November revived Leeds’ season. However, it reduced Wilfried Gnonto’s importance to the team and in the squad. He has been exclusively used from the bench in the Premier League in the last few months, and the club are already in talks to sell him in the upcoming transfer window. Gnonto will likely come on from the bench again today against Brighton, and it is expected to be his last appearance at Elland Road.
One more Leeds stalwart won’t get the opportunity to say goodbye
Illan Meslier has been at Leeds for close to seven years, was instrumental in them earning promotion in 2020, and was the established number one for years.
However, he fell out of favour last season, and the club were unable to offload him during the previous two transfer windows despite trying to do so.
Melsier has not played a game this season and has not even been part of the matchday squad for almost the entirety of the 2025/26 campaign.
He may come out on the pitch to thank the fans at the end of the game. However, he won’t be getting the chance to make one final Elland Road appearance before his contract expires at the end of the season.
