Leeds United defender Jayden Bogle’s heart would have dropped when the referee blew his whistle for a reckless tackle on Sunderland star Reinildo Mandava.

It was a bad tackle, and the foot was high. However, referee Stuart Attwell felt it didn’t warrant a red card, and he cautioned him with a yellow.

Sunderland fans demanded a red card, and even the Black Cats players on the pitch felt the Leeds star should have been sent off for the challenge.

Former Leeds goalkeeper Paul Robinson believes Bogle got away with the challenge, as there was no malicious intent and a yellow card was the right call.

Gruesome image emerges of Bogle’s tackle

The challenge was bad, and on another day a referee would have shown a red card without VAR intervention, as it wouldn’t have been a clear and obvious error.

Mandava’s partner has now shared an image to show how gruesome Bogle’s tackle was on the Sunderland star.

The Instagram image showed several red grazes across the defender’s torso and side, with another mark near his waist. The post included three hand-over-mouth emojis alongside the photograph.

It highlighted the visible marks from a challenge that sparked anger among home supporters during a fiercely contested Premier League clash.

The referee made the right call

Weather conditions at the Stadium of Light were difficult, and Stuart Attwell had a tough game to adjudicate between two sides who were ready to battle hard.

Bogle’s tackle was mistimed and high, but there was no way that was a red card. The Leeds star had no malicious intent, and he just made a bad decision.

The image looks bad, but it doesn’t make the challenge any worse. Attwell got it spot on by producing a yellow card.
