Leeds United may have left the Vitality Stadium empty-handed, but Bournemouth manager Marco Rose was impressed by what he saw from Daniel Farke’s side during their Premier League meeting.
Leeds suffered a 2-0 defeat on the south coast, with mistakes and a lack of attacking threat proving costly. They managed just one shot on target and struggled to find a way back into the contest after Bournemouth took control.
However, Rose was not dismissive of the opposition. The Bournemouth boss recognised the qualities Leeds brought to the game and admitted his team had to work hard to get the result.
His comments offered an interesting perspective on a disappointing afternoon for Farke, particularly given how comfortable Bournemouth eventually looked after taking the lead.

Rose makes Leeds admission after Bournemouth win

Speaking to BBC Match of the Day after the game, Rose praised Leeds and the challenge they presented to his players.
He said:
“We knew that it was going to be different today.
“Leeds are a really good opposition. They matched our intensity and have really good players in possession. They are physical, really hard to play and hard to beat.
“We became better and better, we scored the goals in the right moments, and that’s why we are quite happy today.”
Rose’s assessment will offer some encouragement to Farke, even if it does little to ease the frustration of losing another Premier League fixture.
The Bournemouth manager specifically highlighted Leeds’ physicality, intensity and ability in possession. He also acknowledged that his team had to grow into the contest before finding a way to take control.
That is significant praise from a manager whose side have been producing some impressive results. Bournemouth were not expecting an easy afternoon against Leeds, despite eventually securing a comfortable two-goal victory.

Leeds must turn praise into results

Rose’s comments underline that Leeds can make life difficult for established Premier League sides. However, Farke will know that being considered a difficult opponent means very little without the points to show for it.
Leeds matched Bournemouth at times, but they lacked the quality and conviction to make those moments count. Their attacking limitations were particularly evident once they fell behind, with the visitors unable to put sustained pressure on the hosts.
Farke needs his players to take confidence from the fact that a manager like Rose recognised their qualities, but the bigger challenge is translating that potential into better results.
Leeds cannot afford to keep collecting compliments from opposition managers while coming away from matches empty-handed.
