Sunderland drew with Lech Poznan midweek ahead of their clash with Leeds United. The Black Cats have had a very mixed start to the campaign.

For a team that began last year flying, their start this year leaves a lot to be desired.

Things have gone from bad to worse in recent weeks. Sunderland’s poor form has been exacerbated by injuries to key players.

The consistent losses seem to be affecting the dressing room, with Nordi Mukiele’s recent outburst following their last defeat in the Premier League.

Leeds will be away to the Stadium of Light on Sunday, hoping to get a result. Daniel Farke’s side have not won in their last three games which is becoming a concern.

Ahead of this weekend’s game, both teams are in contrasting forms.

Leeds United will be pleased with their start to the year with 10 points from seven games. They have only lost one game, to Premier League holders Arsenal.

Sunderland couldn’t have asked for a worse start this year; four points from seven games and five defeats.

Daniel Farke was asked in Friday’s press conference if Leeds should expect something different from the Black Cats this weekend considering how their form in Europe has been much better than how they play in England.

The Leeds boss made it clear that Sunderland have the same style, which they will anticipate: ”I know exactly what to expect, big success with promotion and Europe last season.

”Second year after promotion is difficult, tight games and it’s still early doors. Pretty sure they won’t finish bottom.

”Expect a highly motivated home team who plays to DNA. Many teams found it difficult to travel, we know how difficult. Expect a side back to their best.”

Whites have to be wary of Sunderland threat

Sunderland have been very poor in the league but have been decent in Europe. They are also on a four game losing streak in England.

Many will underestimate them ahead of Sunday’s game but they still pose a threat.

The players are under pressure and will be playing in front of a charged home crowd at the Stadium of Light this weekend.

This can motivate them to play better and get a result.

Leeds cannot walk into the game thinking they can pull something off because they are slight favourites. It could easily backfire and end in disappointment like last weekend against Man United.
