Leeds United are preparing to welcome Newcastle United at Elland Road tonight as they get ready for a big clash under the lights tonight.

The Whites suffered a 6-3 hammering at Chelsea in the EFL Cup last week, but are unbeaten in the league. They will look to keep that form going at Elland Road.

Newcastle are unbeaten in five in all competitions and are looking reenergised under new manager Matthias Jaissle, who took charge after Eddie Howe decided to leave the club in the summer.

Jaissle is looking forward to a tough game at Elland Road, but he is also getting ready to face two Leeds players who he previously managed early in their careers.

Leeds duo set for reunion with Matthias Jaissle

Jaissle previously worked with both Brenden Aaronson and Noah Okafor at Red Bull Salzburg, where the two players played key roles in the club’s league and cup double during the 2021-22 campaign.

The Newcastle boss is relishing the chance to reunite with his former players and admitted he is delighted to have the opportunity.

He is happy to see them perform at the top level with Leeds United. Jaissle admitted that he saw their potential when they were still young and highlighted the part they played in his success at Salzburg.

“I am looking forward to seeing both of them”, Jaissle told reporters.

“I will tell you after the match how much I looked forward to seeing them, but I am happy.

“I am always happy to see players at a top level, performing in the best league, when I had them when they were really young.

“I saw their potential, and I was just happy they could also contribute to our success in Salzburg. We had fantastic years back then, and I am glad that they made the step to the Premier League.”

Aaronson and Okafor are likely to start against Newcastle

The Newcastle boss will likely get the chance to watch his former players on the pitch from the start, as both Aaronson and Okafor are likely to be in the Leeds starting eleven.

Okafor will get the nod to start on the left-hand side of the attack as new signing Jean-Mateo Bahoya has yet to play since joining Leeds on deadline day.

Harry Wilson could come in for Aaronson, but the American remains the likelier choice to retain his place in the starting eleven.

Daniel Farke prefers his willingness to graft and work hard, and could give him the nod against a Newcastle side who are unbeaten this season.
