Leeds United have heavily invested in the first team since they were promoted to the first team.

The club defied the norm of shopping in the championship and in relegation clubs, focusing on signing quality from Europe’s top leagues. Getting players like Anton Stach and Jaka Bijol boosted the quality in the team.

They also dipped into the free agent market, getting Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Lukas Nmecha.

It all worked out as Leeds United managed to survive relegation.

This summer, the club have added even more in terms of quality players by adding James Trafford, Harry Wilson and Tarik Muharemovic.

Taking gambles worked out really well for the Whites last year. When Leeds brought in Nmecha and Calvert-Lewin, many questioned the decision.

Both players were injury prone and many thought it would not work out. Fortunately it did in a big way as the club finished in 14th place.

In an interview with LUTV, Nmecha spoke about his decision to join Leeds, saying that it was a gamble to him.

“Doors open and doors close – and it just kind of pointed towards Leeds. I spoke to Daniel, he was very convincing, obviously. [He said] just that it’s a massive club, a great opportunity for Premier League football. He’s obviously watched my journey and sees that I can help the team.

“It was a little bit of a gamble, I would say, to go to a newly-promoted side. But with it being Leeds, the history of the club and everything that Leeds was, it kind of made it a little bit easier for me to make that choice. I needed a change, because I’d had a such a tough time with injuries previously. It kind of just opened itself up.

“When you’re a free agent, it’s a lot easier, let’s say. I could have stayed in Germany, I could have stayed at my club there.”

Lukas Nmecha was a gamble that paid off in more than one way

Leeds have benefitted from having the German; he was a big help in their first season back in the top flight.

Nmecha remains a solid option off the bench as he can impact games.

Moving to England also helped the striker, who has risen his profile – this can be seen as clubs are eyeing a move for him with his current deal up in 2027.

He has played well enough to convince other clubs that he is worth a transfer.
