Before a ball was even kicked this season, Leeds United were heavily tipped to be relegated. Daniel Farke was even in the headlines, with many expecting him to be sacked.

However, the Whites have kept things together and have pulled off a very solid campaign. Despite the ups and downs, the team still have their heads above the water heading into the final weeks of the season. Leeds were promoted alongside Sunderland and Burnley. With four games to go, Sunderland are safe in the league, while Burnley have been relegated.

Farke’s men will host the Clarets at Elland Road this week, with the home side keen on a result to confirm their place in the top flight. Everyone around the club believes 40 points is enough, but the Leeds boss is not satisfied until the club is mathematically safe.

Leeds make contact with Wolves star

Wolves were the first team to be relegated from the Premier League. They suffered a 3-0 loss at Elland Road, with Leeds putting in a flawless performance. Days after the result, news emerged that the Whites had their eye on some players from Rob Edwards’ side. Reports indicate that Leeds made contact with Ladislav Krejci over a summer move.

And now, Sport Witness are reporting that the Whites are also after Wolves star Santiago Bueno. The center back is said to have caught the eye of multiple Premier League clubs including Crystal Palace and West Ham United. Rob Edwards’ side will most likely sell a chunk of the team as they prepare for Championship football. These clubs, including Leeds, have made contact with the player, but Wolves have not set an asking price. It is believed Bueno will make a choice after the World Cup this summer.

Santiago Bueno has Marcelo Bielsa seal of approval

Leeds fans will be happy with this link, as when the Uruguayan arrived in England back in 2023, Marcelo Bielsa influenced the transfer. This was revealed during Bueno’s unveiling by Wolves Sporting Director Matt Hobbs: “I spoke to people around [Marcelo] Bielsa who raves about him, he’s been called up by the national team and is expected to be a big part of them moving forward. When Santiago went on holiday, he was asked to go to the national training camp and went through his Girona games intensely.

“He was full of absolute praise for him and couldn’t speak highly enough of Santiago. When his national team head coach is that big on him, on his strengths and developing him, it’s exciting.”

Based on all this, the defender could be a hit at Elland Road if he does decide to join the Whites. Leeds themselves will be keeping an eye on the transfer market after recent news surrounding Pascal Struijk.
