According to German outlet BILD, Leeds United have submitted a bid for Fortuna Dusseldorf midfielder Ao Tanaka.
The reported claims that Leeds submitted an offer for the midfielder after Bundesliga side Stuttgart had their €2.7million offer for the player rejected. BILD hinted that the 24-year old may be set for a “move to England in the next few days” before the transfer deadline. According to them this is because Stuttgart have signed an alternative target and will not be pushing on to sign Tanaka.

They say no agreement has yet been agreed but he ‘could move to England in the next few days’. Stuttgart’s £2.3m offer was turned down. #lufchttps://t.co/UAsSB65nBO

The Japanese international being a target for Daniel Farke does not come as a surprise. Just last week, Leeds saw a potential move for Leverkusen midfielder Nadiem Amiri collapse as the player is unsure of a move to Elland Road. The Whites are also pushing to sign Rangers midfielder Glen Kamara before the end of the window.
Tanaka is another experienced name on the shortlist, the 24-year old has made over 59 appearances since arriving in Germany. He is also a full-time international for Japan, featuring at the 2022 FIFA World Cup and winning a man of the match award against Spain. The midfielder has two years left on his current contract.
If BILD is to be believed, a fee around €2-3million would be enough to bring the player to Elland Road.
