Leeds United managed to play over 120 minutes last weekend as they booked their place at Wembley. They will now face Chelsea in the FA Cup semi-final later this month.

The quarterfinal at the London stadium was not only exhausting for the players, Leeds also lost Anton Stach early in the game. The midfielder picked up a knock and had to be substituted before the end of the first half. Joe Rodon also went off after just seven minutes into the second half of the game, and was replaced by Sebastiaan Bornauw. The Whites may have succeeded in reaching Wembley, but the injuries could affect their season.

Daniel Farke hints at Leeds star’s return to the squad

Daniel Farke confirmed this in Thursday’s press conference as he ruled out both Stach and Rodon for Monday’s game against Manchester United. The Leeds boss strongly hinted that both players would only become available next month. Noah Okafor and Dan James are also said to be doubts for the Monday night game, which could see the return of another Leeds star.

Speaking to the press, Farke hinted that Facundo Buonanotte could earn a recall to the first team as he has impressed in training in the last couple of weeks. The Leeds boss also added that there will be serious competition in attack after the injuries.

“I like a lot what he’s done in the last two, three weeks. I’ve spoke with him, given him a sign we’re happy with the consistency he delivers in training.

“He was pretty close to the matchday squad [at West Ham] though many players were fit. Perhaps a chance for him now there are a few injuries.

“But the solution is always deliver with consistency in training, not just one good session. You have to do this for a few weeks to be back in the spotlight. It means when I call him up I would need to leave another player in the offence.”

This could be Buonanotte’s last chance

It would be very unfair to say a player who has managed just three appearances since January will be judged on his next game, but that is the case with Buonanotte. He came in with a lot of expectations, and has failed to deliver so far. The midfielder looked sluggish and out of shape in his first few appearances, which could be why he was sidelined by Daniel Farke. These injuries will give the Argentine a way back into the first team, and he has to take the chance with both hands. This is not only for himself, but for his future – if he plays well enough, it could convince Leeds United to sign him on a permanent deal.
