Ligue 1 side target Georginio Rutter to replace star forward – Report

According to Téléfoot via GFFN, Lyon have shortlisted Georginio Rutter to replace Bradley Barcola who is on the verge of joining PSG.

Ligue 1 side Lyon have begun internal talks over the possibility of signing Leeds United forward Georginio Rutter. The 21-year-old played his youth career in France and made his professional debut for Rennes in 2020. Lyon’s plan is to sign Rutter as a replacement for Bradley Barcola, who could PSG join, according to Téléfoot.

No official bid or offer has been sent to Leeds for Georginio Rutter, but it is said that when Lyon completed the sale of Barcola, there will definitely be contact. The Lgiue 1 side are currently handicapped in the transfer window as they failed to present an adequate budget to French football’s financial watchdog – the DNCG – back in June. This means they can only spend what they make from outgoings this summer.

Rutter arrived at Leeds United from Hoffenheim in January for a reported £36million, which made him the club’s record signing. Over the last few months, 49ers Enterprises and Daniel Farke have spoken to the player, making it known that he is a key member of the team this season. Any potential bid for the 21-year-old would have to be in excess of £36million for Leeds to make a profit.

The former Hoffenheim player scored his first goal of the season for Leeds in a 4-3 win against Ipswich town this weekend.

Nothing against Georgio. He was bought as the player to solve all our goalscoring problems in a team that were simply not good enough. I respect the fact he has not asked for a move and just got his head down to do the job he was bought in for in a position that suited him. I was so glad for him to score on Saturday too. However, we have to look at this practically. If we could get the fee and a little profit then I would say let him go. Not wanting to see him go but we could add two or three quality players for that sort of money. Just being realistic
