Leeds United played one of their best games this season in the win at Old Trafford. Coming into the game, many expected Michael Carrick’s side to be the favourites.
They had lost just one league game in their last five and were closing in on a European spot this season. But as soon as the game began, Manchester United were on the back foot. And within five minutes, Noah Okafor had made his way into the box to score the opener.
The Old Trafford crowd was silenced, and Leeds used this to their advantage as they built some serious momentum. Daniel Farke’s tactics worked perfectly, as the home side struggled to create. And Okafor doubled the away side’s advantage halfway through the first period. The Whites took the two goal advantage into the break, with many saying they should have scored more.
Paul Scholes takes sly dig at Leeds United ace
In the second half, Manchester United slowly came back into the game, with Leeds sitting back to absorb pressure. Farke’s side could have killed off the game in the second half, but Dominic Calvert-Lewin missed a big chance to do so. Michael Carrick’s men pulled one back, but Leeds United managed to hold on and escape with their precious three points.
Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes praised Calvert-Lewin’s performance on Monday night, but took a sly dig at him. Scholes mentioned that the striker was not ”top level” on the Stick to Football podcast.
“I thought Calvert-Lewin was really good.” Scholes said.
“He was a handful, wasn’t he? I know he’s short in other areas, Calvert-Lewin, but he was a handful; it’s back to the old days. The first goal, he’s attacked it well.” Roy Keane added.
“He was brilliant, but he showed why he’s probably not at that top level; he should’ve finished the game for them.”

Dominic Calvert-Lewin has proved himself this season
Paul Scholes can say whatever he wants about the Leeds star, but Calvert-Lewin has proved himself this season. This past summer, clubs were afraid to take a gamble on him after he left Everton. But the 49ers and Daniel Farke managed to convince him to make the switch to Elland Road, and the move has worked quite well. 11 goals in all competitions this season, with his performances earning him a return to the England squad is a very solid campaign. Not to mention that if Dominic Calvert-Lewin does finish the season on a high, he has every chance of making the World Cup squad – which absolutely makes him a ”top level” player.
