Leeds United moved six points clear of the relegation zone on Monday night with their win against Manchester United. The Whites took one step closer to safety in a very tight battle at the bottom.
Wolves and Burnley are the two teams already set to be relegated, and one spot remains. Spurs fell into the relegation zone this past weekend after losing to Sunderland. But the season is far from over, and Nottingham Forest, Leeds United and West Ham have a lot of work to do to avoid the drop this season.
Daniel Farke’s men played some of their best football at Old Trafford, dominating the first half. Their two goals in the first 45 minutes were enough to see them record a victory on Monday night. Jamie Carragher and Roy Keane were full of praise for the Leeds boss and his tactics on the night.
Leeds United receive huge boost in relegation battle
Farke’s men are heading in the right direction after picking up a crucial win. Things were looking grim as West Ham and Forest picked up points after playing before Leeds kicked off on Monday. Now the win has eased a bit of pressure on the Whites ahead of this weekend. Leeds will host Wolves at Elland Road, where they have lost two of their last three games. Daniel Farke has already warned his side about complacency ahead of the match.
On Thursday night, Leeds have received a huge boost in the relegation battle as Nottingham Forest progressed to the semi-finals of the Europa Conference League. Vitor Pereira’s side beat Porto 1-0 in England, and 2-1 on aggregate to reach the next round of the European cup competition. Forest picked up two injuries in the game, as Chris Wood and Murillo were both subbed off with knocks during the game.

Leeds have an edge going forward
Nottingham Forest will now have two fixtures on their schedule, and the team will have to divide their focus between Premier League and Europe. This hands a slight advantage to Leeds United going forward. That, coupled with the fact that Spurs are struggling to get going under Roberto de Zerbi means that a few more results for Daniel Farke’s men could be enough for another season in the top flight. The Whites must take every game seriously from now till the end of the season, starting with this weekend’s clash with Wolves at Elland Road.
