The 49ers spending over £100 million last summer is the reason why Leeds United have not already been relegated. There were 10 new signings before the start of the season, most that did not please fans.
But going up to the Premier League, it was quite clear that the team lacked some quality. Especially in midfield and the attack; and after losing key defenders the Whites had needs in those areas. Leeds managed to sign a new goalkeeper, stacked their defence and brought in midfielders that could match the physicality of English football.
It was the attack that lacked some star power, but even in that area of the pitch, Lukas Nmecha and Dominic Calvert-Lewin have exceeded expectations. The duo are the club’s top scorers this season in all competitions.
Leeds United eye Scottish wonderkid
The season is far from over, but the 49ers seem to have their eye on the near future. Leeds are planning to sign a new striker in the summer, as the club feel Calvert-Lewin needs some competition. A goalkeeper could be on the radar too, with three first team options set to depart at the end of their contract. The Whites will also make a lot of decisions concerning players who were loaned out last summer.
The 49ers are keen on adding a super talent to the team in the coming months. Sky Sports are reporting that Leeds United are one of the teams pursuing Hearts wonderkid Alfie Osborne. The young defender has been attracting interest across Europe, with many clubs keen on signing him. Osborne will be available for free, but the club will pay Hearts around £190,000 in training compensation.

Some areas in the Leeds squad need serious attention
It is a good thing that the club are evaluating a serious market opportunity like Alfie Osborne. He would not cost a lot, and with Leeds’ track record with youngsters, the Scotland U19 international is an interesting prospect.
However there are other areas of the team that need some serious upgrades, especially in attack. The club has already hinted at getting a new striker this summer, but they could also do with wide players too. Dan James and Wilfried Gnonto have disappointed this season, and the only ”good” option has been Noah Okafor, who has just four goals. If Leeds want to stand any chance at success next season, they need players who can fix their goalscoring problems.
