Report: Southampton players were ‘unconvinced’ by Jesse Marsch

According to Football Insider, one of the reasons Jesse Marsch was blocked from joining Southampton was because the players were not convinced.

The 49-year old was in charge at Leeds for just over a year. He came in after Marcelo Bielsa was sacked and helped guide the club to safety in the final weeks of the campaign.

However, after a poor start to the 2022/23 season, Leeds decided to part ways. Marsch only managed to win 4 league games this season. After his sacking earlier last week, he was set to join Southampton before the deal fell off.

According to The Telegraph, one of the major reasons The Saints blocked the move was because they were unwilling to offer him a long-term deal. Football Insider also adds that the prospect of hiring Marsch did not excite players at St. Mary’s. The report claims the clubs ‘senior players’ were against the American, saying it was a ‘unambitious appointment’.

Both Leeds and Southampton are still in search of a new manager as they aim to stay in the Premier League next season.
