Leeds have done some incredible business so far considering the money they spend. But Ian Darke believes their current window will not be enough to make an impact next season. Darke thinks that needs need to spend more than the reported £120million budget this summer:

“I can remember Fulham coming up a few years back and spending £100million but not on the right players.” he told MOT Leeds News.

“Now, you are down to how good the recruiting is and how well you spend the money.

“In theory, that should buy them. What does £80m buy you? Probably four in-form, middle-ranging £20m types, or you could splash out £40m to get a top-quality guy in, a difference maker.

“That is the decision that they will have to take, if they have that kind of money around.

“The only thing I would add is, it is not great news for everyone else to know that Leeds have got that kind of money burning a hole in their pocket.

“That disarms you a bit in negotiations with other clubs.”

Two more targets planned

The current plan is to sign Rodrigo Muniz and Igor Paixao – the club’s two main targets.

Feyenoord and Marseille have failed to reach an agreement over the past few days, leaving the door open for Leeds United. The Whites have reportedly sent in a £30million bid, which is close to Feyenoord’s asking price.

As for Muniz and Fulham, the London club are aware about the interest, but maintain their stance that they are not willing to sell this summer.

Transfer spend of other promoted clubs

Sunderland, who were promoted after winning the play-off final, have already spent over a £100million this summer. The Black Cats signed two players Leeds had targeted in Habib Diarra, and Noah Sadiki.

Burnley have spent around £69million, just a bit higher that what Leeds have spent this summer. Scott Parker’s side have relatively had a quiet window when it comes to the quality of signings.
