Adam Pope reveals fresh twist in Leeds United’s Harry Wilson pursuit

Leeds United did not have it smooth in the transfer market on their return to the Premier League. Getting some deals across the line last year took some unfortunate turns.

The most memorable transfer saga was Harry Wilson at the summer transfer deadline.

After missing out on key attackers in the final weeks of the season, Leeds pushed to sign the Fulham man. Unfortunately for them, the London club pulled the plug at the last minute.

So Daniel Farke had to do without a profile he had been after for a few seasons.

In January, the club also pushed to sign striker Jorgen Strand Larsen. The 49ers were very willing to sign the Norwegian, and wanted to pay above £40 million for him.

Wolves chose to sell him to Crystal Palace, with Leeds having a different structure for the transfer.

Adam Pope gives key details in Harry Wilson pursuit

This week, it was announced that Leeds United had agreed a deal to sign Harry Wilson.

Per the report, he has agreed to a long-term contract with a medical the next step. Nothing has been confirmed at this point but there is confidence that everything will be wrapped up soon.

Adam Pope says the deal is not totally guaranteed, as there is still interest in the winger.

“Harry Wilson has agreed in principle, and it will be done, pending a medical.” he said on BBC Sport.

“The contract doesn’t end until June 30, so stuff will start moving on July 1, as technically he is under contract at Fulham.

“For all intents and purposes, it’s happening, but look, we can never absolutely guarantee everything.

“It’s all agreed but Villa, we understand, are interested.

“Who is to say his old boss, Marco Silva at Benfica, still might fancy him.

“Clearly, there is interest in Harry Wilson.”

49ers must not let this deal go past them

At this point, it will take something very big for Leeds to lose out on Harry Wilson.

Everything is set for the deal to be completed; a long-term contract, a pay rise and a stay in the Premier League. Nothing has been confirmed as he has not signed or completed a medical.

But the threat of a club like Aston Villa is very real.

It will be down to the 49ers to completely convince the midfielder that a move to Elland Road is the best next step for him.
