Leeds United are preparing for Saturday’s Premier League opener against Nottingham Forest, but there is still plenty happening behind the scenes as the club continues to reshape the squad before the transfer window closes.

The Whites remain keen to strengthen several positions while also working on further departures.

Leeds have now confirmed the arrival of Nico Elvedi from Borussia Monchengladbach, while Joel Piroe and Sebastiaan Bornauw have both officially left the club.

The Yorkshire giants also confirmed later on Wednesday evening that Joe Rodon has signed a new four-year contract with the club to extend his stay until at least 2030.

49ers will need to sort out two more contracts at Leeds soon

Leeds are looking to bring in three more players before the end of the transfer window. They are in the market for backups to a striker, left-back and a goalkeeper.

However, the 49ers must prioritise offering two more new deals soon to ensure there is stability behind the scenes at Elland Road.

Brenden Aaronson has entered the final 12 months of his contract, and he is keen to stay at Elland Road and earn a new deal.

He has looked an important member of the squad, and is unlikely to be sold before the end of the window, unless something changes behind the scenes.

However, the 49ers have to decide whether Aaronson deserves a new deal or should consider offloading him in the winter transfer window, when he will have only six months left on his contract.

But more importantly, the 49ers must find a way to sort out a new contract for Daniel Farke as soon as possible.

There was talk of the German signing a new three-year deal, but with days left for the start of the season, the German has yet to sign on fresh terms.

He is in the final 12 months of his contract, and the 49ers cannot afford the situation to linger on in the coming months.

If Leeds start the new season on a positive note, Farke’s contract situation could become an issue as other clubs look for a new manager.

No movement on Farke’s contract could become a major problem

It’s hard to believe that the 49ers were briefly considering replacing Daniel Farke after Leeds won promotion to the Premier League due to his previous record in the top flight.

The Leeds owners held their nerve again and backed the German when things looked tricky during October-November last year.

However, the 49ers must move again and ensure there are question marks surrounding Farke’s future by signing him up on a new long-term deal soon.

They cannot afford to let this situation linger on for months as Farke runs down his contract at Elland Road.

It would not be a surprise if a few major clubs move for the German in the middle of the season if he doesn’t sign a new deal with Leeds.
