Leeds United have drawn five of their first eight Premier League games, and a lack of bite in the final third has limited their progress.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin has looked potent up front. However, Leeds have struggled to supply their talisman, and creativity has been an issue.

Daniel Farke wants to strengthen his squad in the winter transfer window, and the club are expected to bring in one or two forwards, even mid-season.

The club’s recruitment team have been looking at several attacking profiles, and one winger has reportedly emerged on their radar ahead of January.

Leeds scouting £29m forward wanted at Sunderland

According to Sky Sports, Leeds are among the clubs scouting Sporting Lisbon winger Geny Catamo with a view to a move.

The 25-year-old has scored two goals and registered four assists this season, attracting attention from Premier League clubs.

Leeds have their eyes on him and recently sent scouts to watch the winger in action for Sporting Lisbon, with a view to a potential summer move.

However, Sunderland have shown the most concrete interest in taking Catamo to the Premier League.

They were keen to sign him in the summer transfer window, and are now considering revisiting the move in the upcoming January window.

However, they are not interested in meeting Sporting Lisbon’s £29m asking price for the winger, even though they were prepared to pay more money in the summer.

Sunderland boss Regis Le Bris is a fan and believes Catamo can provide the attacking depth his squad needs.

Leeds are also watching and could jump into the race for the winger in the winter window.

What happens to Jean-Matteo Bahoya?

A January move for Geny Catamo could be bad news for Jean-Matteo Bahoya, whose future at Leeds United already looks uncertain. The winger has barely featured since arriving, making just two substitute appearances and playing only a handful of minutes.

Leeds are understood to have an obligation to buy Bahoya if he reaches a certain number of appearances, but his lack of involvement raises questions about whether Daniel Farke sees him as part of his plans.

That is why interest in Catamo would be significant. If Leeds pursue another attacking option in January rather than giving Bahoya a proper opportunity, it would suggest Farke wants a different profile of player for the role.

Nothing is certain yet, but Bahoya needs to start getting minutes soon. Otherwise, a January move for Catamo could look like another sign that his Leeds career is going nowhere.
