Joel Piroe is edging closer to the Leeds United exit door, with the forward now in London as he prepares to complete his loan move to West Ham.

Leeds are also closing in on the signing of Borussia Monchengladbach centre-back Nico Elvedi, who is set to become their fourth arrival of the summer. But alongside their recruitment, the club are continuing to work on moving several players out of Elland Road.

Lucas Perrin is due in Italy today to complete his loan switch to Torino, while Sebastiaan Bornauw is also close to finalising his move to Hamburg.

West Ham’s interest in Piroe gathered significant momentum on Sunday, with the two clubs entering advanced negotiations over a deal for the forward before the summer transfer window closes.

Adam Pope unsure about Leeds’ decision to let Joel Piroe leave

Leeds have permitted Piroe to travel to London to undergo a medical ahead of joining West Ham on loan. The Hammers will have to buy him if they get promoted next season.

However, BBC Leeds reporter Adam Pope has questioned the decision to let Piroe leave without bringing in another striker this summer.

He believes Leeds could have waited until the last moment to let the forward leave or hold on to him until January, given they are yet to sign a forward.

“I still think Leeds need something up there [a new striker], don’t you?”, Pope said on the BBC’s Don’t Go To Bed Just Yet podcast.

“In the absence of that, do you let him go?

“With Piroe, are we in a situation where Leeds can wait until someone is desperate for a goal scorer and you wait for the last moment?

“Or January, by some people, would absolutely be desperate for a striker.

“It feels like the deal will get done now.”

Leeds United’s needs in the final weeks of the transfer window

With Nico Elvedi’s arrival now imminent, Leeds United are still looking to bring in at least three more players before the transfer window closes on September 2.

A new striker remains high on the agenda, with the Whites strongly linked with Burnley’s Zian Flemming, who scored twice against West Ham at the weekend.

Leeds also want to add cover for Gabriel Gudmundsson, although Wolves defender Santiago Bueno is no longer under consideration.

Another goalkeeper is also needed, with the club keen to find a genuine number two for James Trafford. Alex Cairns is currently viewed as little more than a third-choice option at Elland Road.
