Daniel Farke slams referee after Leeds defeat at Bournemouth: “Not difficult to judge”

Daniel Farke left frustrated with the officiating after Leeds United suffered a 2-0 defeat against Bournemouth, suggesting his side has not been getting its fair share of decisions from referees.

The Leeds manager was reluctant to make the officials the main talking point after another disappointing result, but he made it clear that he was unhappy with what he witnessed at the Vitality Stadium.

Farke appeared particularly annoyed by an incident involving Nico Elvedi and Dominic Calvert-Lewin, believing the Leeds defender had been punished for a challenge similar to one of the Bournemouth players made moments earlier.

Farke questions referee after Elvedi booking

The Leeds boss felt there was an obvious inconsistency in how the referee handled two challenges involving the same players.

Farke suggested Calvert-Lewin had been fouled by a Bournemouth player around 10 seconds before Elvedi was shown a yellow card for a similar challenge.

Speaking after the defeat, he said: “Got the feeling today, I don’t get decisions.

“Elvedi was booked for the same foul on Calvert-Lewin 10 seconds earlier.

“After a win, I would have spoken about the referee, but after a loss, I will not. It’s not difficult to judge for yourself how he did today.”

It was a pointed assessment from Farke, who clearly felt his side had been on the wrong end of some questionable officiating.

His decision not to elaborate further was telling, although the final remark left little doubt about his feelings towards the referee’s performance.

Leeds left frustrated after Bournemouth defeat

The officiating controversy added to an afternoon Leeds would rather forget.

Farke’s side lost 2-0 on the south coast, with James Trafford’s underhit pass helping set up Bournemouth’s opening goal. Evanilson took advantage after James Kluivert intercepted the ball and squared it for the striker to finish.

Leeds also struggled to produce enough attacking quality, managing just one shot on target throughout. Dominic Calvert-Lewin briefly thought he had given the visitors the lead earlier in the game, only for VAR to rule it out because the ball struck his arm before going into the net.

There were several reasons for Farke to be disappointed, but his comments suggest he believes the officiating added another layer of frustration to an already difficult afternoon.

Leeds must now put the defeat behind them and respond in their next fixture, with Farke needing his players to show considerably more quality in both boxes.
