Leeds United face off against Bournemouth this weekend, and will be up against a familiar face in Tyler Adams. Last season, fans did not take quite well to the midfielder’s actions in the game at the Vitality Stadium.

Adams vigorously celebrated his team’s goals, but Leeds got the last laugh in the end with a late equalizer.

Daniel Farke and Marco Rose will face off once again, with both having met in the Bundesliga in previous seasons. Farke was glad to hear that his counterpart was set to become Cherries boss when it was announced late last ear.

There was really nothing to separate Leeds and Bournemouth when the met last season; two draws in the Premier League.

This Saturday will see a Cherries side coming off back-to-back victories face the Whites, who are searching for a win after two draws.

Tyler Adams joined Leeds United in the summer of 2022, he was part of a long list of Red Bull products recruited under Jesse Marsch. Even though the fruits of that window have been scarce, the midfielder was a bright spot.

He played well when he was fit, but only managed 2 appearances in total, before joining Bournemouth.

Adam Pope, speaking to BBC Sport, says things could have turned out differently if the USMNT star was fit during his time at Elland Road.

“[When] Tyler Adams [joined Leeds he] got injured and we never saw the best in Leeds plus he did leave for Bournemouth acrimoniously. It was really not a nice deal in the end the way it all went through.

“I think there is a bit of a bad taste and when he has played against Leeds United or been featured I think there’s been a little bit of him trying to whip up the crowd a little bit as well.

“It hasn’t surprised me that he’s gone on to do OK. I think it was just injury really that stopped us seeing the best of him.”

Adams would have been a great fit under Farke

His time was short, but he did play well and was a favourite among most of the fanbase. The midfielder’s exit was kind of abrupt, as he had only spent one season at Elland Road before a Premier League club swooped in.

But the America’s quality is undeniable, he was even pursued by Chelsea and Manchester Uited.

Tyler Adams is a combative midfielder who is good on the ball, and covers ground. He would have fit perfectly with Ethan Ampadu and Anton Stach in the current structure of the team.

It is just a shame that Leeds could not keep him beyond one season.
