Daniel Farke’s ‘preference’ revealed as 49ers’ determined not to back down from incredible Jorgen Strand Larsen pursuit

Jorgen Strand Larsen Leeds United

Things have slowed down at Leeds United since last week; the club announced their first January signing in Facundo Buonanotte. Things were wrapped up quickly as the Brighton man’s loan was cut short.

The Argentine spent the first half of the season on loan at Chelsea, where he was barely used. So the player pushed for the move when both sides held talks in December. Now, the attacking midfielder provides some much needed quality since the departure of Jack Harrison. Daniel Farke now has the creative player he has been asking for, and now the team have some quality in midfield areas.

However, Buonanotte was not the only target over the last few weeks. Leeds United are still trying to complete a move for Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Jorgen Strand Larsen.

Daniel Farke’s ‘preference’ revealed as Leeds United pursue Jorgen Strand Larsen

A deal for the Norwegian international is yet to be reached, after the Whites submitted an official enquiry and put forward an initial offer. Just like with Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Jorgen Strand Larsen is a player that has already been given the green light by Daniel Farke. Per reports, the Leeds United boss wants to stick with the new 3-5-2 system for the rest of the season, and the Wolves striker would be the perfect fit alongside Calvert-Lewin.

The formation switch has been a game changer for Leeds, players have been moved into new roles that reflect their skillset better. Brenden Aaronson was struggling on the wings, but in a more central role he has thrived in this new shape. Dominic Calvert-Lewin has been much better off playing with bodies around him instead of being isolated as a lone striker too. Allowing more freedom for Gabriel Gudmundsson and Jayden Bogle down each flank has also been a massive tactical success.

49ers believe deal can still be reached

Leeds United are still waiting on a response from Wolverhampton; their latest bid of £33 million and £6 million in add-ons is still on the table. This is close to the £40 million asking price of the selling club, but nothing has been confirmed at the moment.

A lot of credit must be giving to the Leeds ownership for this ambitious move; signing Jorgen Strand Larsen for this fee at this point of the season means the club have full faith in survival at the end of the campaign. Fans must now hope Daniel Farke and the players can deliver on the pitch when called upon for the rest of the season.
