Ex-Leeds midfielder emerges as surprise replacement for Bruno Guimaraes at Newcastle United

Leeds United are determined to build on last season’s 14th-place finish, with the 49ers committed to establishing the club as a regular Premier League side through continued investment in the squad.

One of their first moves was to bring in Harry Wilson, adding much-needed quality and end product in the final third.

Leeds lacked consistent attacking output from the wide areas last season, with Dan James and Wilfried Gnonto struggling to deliver regularly. Wilson, by contrast, arrives after scoring 11 Premier League goals for Fulham and is expected to provide a greater goal threat.

The Whites have also strengthened at the back with the signing of Tarik Muharemovic from Sassuolo.

The Bosnia international brings added height, physicality and presence to Leeds’ defence, qualities that served Daniel Farke’s side well last season and are expected to become an even bigger part of their identity going forward.

Newcastle eye move for ex-Leeds star as Bruno Guimaraes prepares to leave

Newcastle have already sold Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali, and Bruno Guimaraes is on the verge of completing a move to Arsenal this summer.

The Magpies have also lost manager Eddie Howe; he decided to quit just weeks before the start of the new season, and the club are in a state of mess at the moment.

Newcastle are keen to replace Guimaraes as soon as possible, and they are keen to bring in someone with Premier League experience to replace their club captain.

According to Football Insider, the Magpies have set their sights on Bournemouth midfielder Tyler Adams this summer.

Adams, who spent a season at Leeds, has emerged as one of the top defensive midfielders in the Premier League and is in demand at the moment.

He is also one of the options Manchester United are considering if they lose out on one of their top targets. However, Newcastle are more in need of a player such as Adams.

Leeds fans do not have fond memories of Tyler Adams

Tyler Adams has revived his Premier League career since joining Bournemouth and is now being linked with a high-profile move to Manchester United this summer.

His spell at Leeds United, however, is remembered in a very different light. Adams arrived at Elland Road in 2022 but was part of the squad that suffered relegation from the Premier League at the end of a disappointing campaign.

Although he was one of Leeds’ standout performers in midfield when fit, he was ultimately unable to help the club avoid the drop.

After relegation, Adams opted to join Bournemouth rather than stay and help Leeds push for an immediate return to the Premier League. Since then, he has rebuilt his reputation, establishing himself as one of the most dependable holding midfielders in the division.

Despite his success on the south coast, many Leeds supporters still associate Adams with the club’s relegation season and his decision to leave soon afterwards. While he has since proven his quality at Premier League level, some fans continue to feel he departed before repaying the faith the club had shown in him.
