Leeds United have reached the 40-point mark and are now within touching distance of securing their Premier League status, with a win over Burnley at Elland Road on Friday night likely to seal it.

With survival increasingly within reach, the club have already begun accelerating their plans for the summer transfer window.

Strengthening midfield, attack and defence is on the agenda, and Leeds are keen to ensure that they remain smart in the window to bring in quality players without breaking the bank.

The club brought in a couple of players on free transfers last summer and are keen to repeat that approach this year by exploring the free-agent market once again.

Fabrizio Romano confirms Leeds’ interest in Danilho Doekhi

Danilho Doekhi will be leaving Union Berlin at the end of the season when his current deal expires and will be available on a free transfer.

Leeds have been tracking him for months, but there is a fear that bigger clubs with deeper pockets will eventually get their hands on the 27-year-old centre-back.

Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Leeds are still looking to sign the centre-back in the upcoming summer transfer window.

The Whites are still pushing to sign him and are very much in the race to take the centre-back to Elland Road in the coming months.

However, the Italian transfer expert also added that Doekhi is attracting strong interest from clubs in Saudi Arabia ahead of the summer.

Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund are also keeping tabs on him with a view to signing him on a free transfer in the upcoming window.

Leeds are very much involved in the race for Doekhi, but will have to beat a few clubs to his signature on a free transfer.

Leeds may need to sell a defender

Leeds are well-stocked in centre-back options at this stage, with at least four centre-backs vying for spots, and James Justin can also play in central defence.

Doekhi, at 27, is unlikely to want to move to a club where he won’t be a certain starter, given he has not missed a single minute of Bundesliga football in two seasons, and at this stage, it is hard to see who he replaces in the team.

Jaka Bijol has been superb this season, and Daniel Farke is unlikely to want to sell either Pascal Struijk or Joe Rodon, unless offered silly money.

Sebastiaan Bornauw has not played enough this season, and his departure may lead to the arrival of one more centre-back. However, he is not a starter in the squad.

Leeds may need to cash in on one of their starting defenders if they want to sign Doekhi on a free transfer in the summer.
