Jamie Redknapp left ‘in awe’ by Leeds United masterclass vs Crystal Palace

Leeds United delivered a statement performance at Elland Road on Saturday evening, cruising to a superb 4–1 victory over Crystal Palace to extend their unbeaten run in the Premier League to four matches.

Once again, Dominic Calvert-Lewin was the standout performer. The 28-year-old striker struck twice to continue his blistering form, taking his tally to six Premier League goals in just four games for Leeds.

Second-half goals from Leeds captain Ethan Ampadu and Anton Stach put the result beyond doubt, capping a dominant display from Daniel Farke’s side, who are increasingly looking like a team capable of securing their top-flight status.

The Whites have now taken eight points from their last four league outings, a remarkable turnaround after suffering six defeats in seven. In the space of a few weeks, Leeds have completely shifted the momentum of their season and reasserted themselves in the Premier League.

Jamie Redknapp left in awe of Leeds United after Crystal Palace win

Leeds hammered Crystal Palace in the first half and were deservedly leading the game at the break through a Calvert-Lewin brace.

Palace scored in the second half and also hit the post. However, Ampadu’s opportunistic finish and Stach’s brilliant free-kick goal were just rewards for Leeds.

Former Liverpool midfielder Jamie Redknapp was left in shock at what he saw from Leeds in their win over Palace at Elland Road on Saturday night.

He insisted Leeds were excellent, and apart from their forward line and midfield, he was also impressed with the way they kept it tight at the back against Palace.

Redknapp said on Sky Sports: “Today [Saturday night] I thought they [Leeds] were brilliant, Crystal Palace look like they were running on fumes right now, but they [Leeds] were excellent.

“Ampadu in midfield, Dominic Calvert-Lewin, defensively, we were both [Daniel Sturridge] in awe of what they did today, they were great.”

Leeds United have a solid cushion over teams in the relegation zone

Leeds have turned their season around in the last few weeks. Eight points from their last four games have pushed them away from the relegation zone.

They are still 16th in the table, just two spots above the dreaded drop zone, but they do not look like one of the three worst sides of the Premier League.

Premier League Table – Bottom Five (After 17 Matches)
Pos Club MP W D L GF GA GD Pts
16 Leeds United 17 5 4 8 24 31 -7 19
17 Nottingham Forest 16 5 3 8 17 25 -8 18
18 West Ham 17 3 4 10 19 35 -16 13
19 Burnley 17 3 2 12 19 34 -15 11
20 Wolves 17 0 2 15 9 37 -28 2

More importantly, Wolves, Burnley and West Ham do not look like turning their season around at this stage, and Leeds already have a decent cushion.

The Whites have a six-point lead over West Ham, who are occupying the final relegation spot, and the Hammers lost again on Saturday.

Wolves seem certain to go down, and Burnley only managed to halt a run of seven defeats on the trot with a draw against Bournemouth this weekend.
