Leeds United’s 2-1 win over Manchester United at Old Trafford last week was momentous for several reasons, but it has also led to a big decision within the Red Devils.

It was Leeds’ first away win in the league over Manchester United in 45 years, and the result also boosted their chances of Premier League survival this season.

Four more points from their next two games against Wolves and Bournemouth have virtually sealed Premier League security for one more season for Leeds.

However, the Old Trafford game will remain etched in the memories of a generation of Leeds United fans due to the momentous nature of the win and the path it secured towards Premier League survival.

But the result seems to have ended the Manchester United career of one of their expensive signings.

Jim Ratcliffe left furious by £50m Manchester United star after the Leeds defeat

Manuel Ugarte made his first start for Manchester United under Michael Carrick against Leeds due to the absence of Kobie Mainoo.

However, the Uruguayan international midfielder did show why the interim manager has no faith in him with a dreadful performance against Daniel Farke’s men.

Ugarte also found the worst possible time to perform as Jim Ratcliffe was also at Old Trafford, and according to The Athletic, the Manchester United minority owner was unimpressed.

It has been claimed that the performance only reinforced the British billionaire’s resolve to sell the midfielder in the summer transfer window.

He has widely been expected to leave Manchester United after failing to impress at Old Trafford, and the Leeds game only sealed the idea for the club hierarchy.

Manchester United are expected to invest heavily in their midfield, and Ugarte is seen as surplus to requirements at Old Trafford ahead of the summer.

They may search for Ugarte’s replacement at Elland Road

While Ugarte shrank under the bright lights of Old Trafford last week, Tanaka rose and produced a brilliant performance for Leeds against Manchester United.

He was coming back into the team due to Anton Stach’s injury, but showed why he deserved more opportunities in the starting eleven this season.

Tanaka’s upturn in form has forced Leeds to U-turn on his future. However, Manchester United have been linked with an interest in him ahead of the summer.

Leeds supporters would be furious if the 49ers decide to cash in on a fan-favourite and do the unthinkable of selling him to Manchester United in the upcoming window.
