Leeds United are expected to back Daniel Farke in the January window. This comes despite club managing director Robbie Evans saying that the club would like to avoid business in the market.

The 49ers splashed the cash in the summer bringing in some quality additions to the first team but many outside the club believe that it was not enough.

And with how the season has taken a turn, being active in the January window might not be a bad idea.

Leeds lost their last game away to Bournemouth in a disappointing fashion. They had the game in their hands before James Trafford’s error gave away a goal.

The Whites never got back into the game and the Cherries sealed the game late in the second half.

According to reports, one of the major targets for Leeds United in January is FC Porto’s Zaidu Sanusi.

The left back is out of contract next summer, but Football Insider have revealed that the 49ers will push to sign the Nigerian in January.

He will most likely come at a cut-price deal, which Leeds see as the best scenario. When he does become a free agent, many clubs will be after his signature which would be a problem for the Whites.

Their fear of missing out is why they will pursue a transfer in January rather than next summer.

Sources in Portugal say that Porto have held talks with Sanusi over a new contract, but no new developments have emerged.

Is Zaidu Sanusi needed?

Per reports, Daniel Farke wants the defender for his versatility. He can play left back and left wing back.

But then the club brought in Melvin Bard in the summer for this specific reasoning – the Frenchman can also play these roles. Plus the loanee from OGC Nice can fill in at left centre back which is valuable in Daniel Farke’s system.

So why is the club pushing to sign Sanusi in January?

It most likely means a move for Bard will most likely not happen. The French defender is on loan with no obligation to buy; Bard has played just 18 minutes in the Premier League since his League Cup debut.

He will most likely not be a permanent Leeds player next summer, which makes sense why the club is pushing for a deal for Sanusi in January.
