Leeds United have officially announced the signing of Swiss defender Nico Elvedi. The 29-year old defender arrives in Englad from German club Borussia Monchengladbach.
Per reports, Elvedi only became an option when the future of Sebastiaan Bornauw became uncertain.
The defender was being pursued by Bundesliga side HSV. But when the interest became concrete with the German club keen to sign Bornauw this summer, things fell into place.
Nico Elvedi worked under Daniel Farke at Gladbach a few seasons ago.
The Swiss international will add a wealth of quality and experience to this backline. Competition will be increased this season, with the arrivals of Elvedi and Muharemovic.
Leeds United transfer plan after latest arrival
Aside Elvedi’s arrival, three exits have been confirmed in the space of the last five days at Leeds United.
Joe Gelhardt officially joined Hull City on Saturday, and deals for Joel Piroe and Sebastiaan Bornauw have been confirmed in the last few hours. Piroe joined West Ham on loan with an obligation to buy.
Bornauw is also a temporary deal with an option to buy.
With these exits now settled, Leeds can now focus on the rest of the transfer window. There are still some parts of the team that need additions with the new season set to kick off.
It is believed the next targets for the 49ers include a backup goalkeeper, a left back and a striker.
The club is believed to be working on a few names ahead of the transfer deadline in a couple of weeks.

Addressing each position in the Leeds first team
Leeds have finally signed James Trafford who immediately comes in as first choice goalkeeper. The Whites had been looking to a solution to their problem since the end of last season.
Now a backup should be the priority going forward.
Alex Cairns cannot be the only available first team option after Trafford.
Gabriel Gudmundsson’s latest injury has also raised concerns about the depth at left back, with the Swedish defender the only natural left footer for that role in the team.
Leeds should be looking at alternatives for that position.
Up front, the team has let go of Joel Piroe and Joe Gelhardt. This means that they will need a backup to Dominic Calvert-Lewin; the 49ers are believed to be after a younger player who can compete for a starting spot.
