According to The Athletic, Tottenham Hotspur could increase Joe Rodon’s asking price after the defender’s impressive season on loan at Leeds United.
Rodon has been phenomenal at Leeds United this season, he has been ever present at the back for The Whites, starting 24 out of a possible 25 league games when fit.
He had quite a shaky start to life at Elland Road as he scored an own goal in the second start of the campaign, but has since bounced back and is one of the first names on Daniel Farke’s team sheet every week.
Rodon joined Leeds United from Tottenham Hotspur in the summer, joining his fellow Welsh international teammates Ethan Ampadu and Dan James. The 26-year old joined Spurs from Swansea City back in 2020 but failed to make an impact and was sent on loan to Rennes after a year. At Leeds, he has now become one of the best defenders in the Championship, living up to the potential he had at Swansea four years ago.
Spurs to increase Joe Rodon fee
According to The Athletic, Leeds were quoted around £15 million for Joe Rodon before the two sides agreed on a season long loan.
Daniel Farke revealed a few weeks ago that the recruitment team is “working on” Joe Rodon’s status at the club, hinting that Leeds were looking to make his stay permanent:
“Behind the scenes, we are working. There is no doubt we are more than happy with Joe,” Farke said.
“He is growing into this club more and more, a leader role, you see how much it means to him to wear this white shirt.
“He is just happy to be her. He is crucial. We are more than happy.
“We would like him to stay for a bit longer, but right now it is not an urgent topic – he will stay for us until the end of the season.”
The perfect signing for Leeds United
Adding Joe Rodon on a permanent deal is another step Leeds United would be taking with a view for the future. Rodon and Struijk would be the new backbone at the club, they would be in line to lead this young team after the departure of Luke Ayling and the possible departure of Liam Cooper this summer.
Rodon is a quality defender and will be at the heart of everything Leeds United do in the near future.
However, Spurs are set to increase the asking price above the reported £15 million quoted this summer. Anything above that fee would be steep, but with players lined up to exit the club for big fees this summer, a deal for Rodon could be easily completed if structured properly.
