Leeds United’s 3-0 win over Wolves on Saturday means they have an eight-point lead over Tottenham in the relegation zone with five games left in the season.
Tottenham conceded a late equaliser against Brighton on Saturday evening to drop two valuable points and are still waiting for their first Premier League win in 2026.
Leeds romped past Wolves, and coupled with the win over Manchester United last week, they now seem almost certain to stay in the Premier League next season.
Daniel Farke has urged caution from his Leeds players and has not ruled out Tottenham from performing a late surge. Peter Schmeichel is not too sure about it, given their fixture list.
The Man United legend makes a Leeds point while feeling worried for Tottenham
Former Leeds forward Georginio Rutter put a dagger through Tottenham’s hearts when he scored in the 95th minute for Brighton on Saturday.
He insisted Wolves, Aston Villa, Chelsea, and Everton have something to play for in the final weeks of the Premier League season.
Leeds will travel to Tottenham next month as well, and the former goalkeeper pointed out that they are a side in form and will trouble Spurs.
Schmeichel said on Premier League Productions: “The next one is Wolves.
“Had Spurs won today, Wolves would have gone down. They need a miracle, but it’s at home, and they have won some incredible results.
“Aston Villa are still trying to get into the Champions League, so that’s a difficult game.
“We saw Leeds earlier on today, and they have found some form; they are playing really well.
“The it’s Chelsea and Tottenham never beat Chelsea, and it’s at Stamford Bridge.
“At Everton in the last game, and you can imagine, at this point, they will be trying to get into Europe.
“In all of these games, the other teams have something at stake, and it’s going to be difficult.”
Daniel Farke’s side are on the cusp
The Leeds manager has made it clear he doesn’t want any complacency creeping into his side, pointing out that this season has been far from straightforward. Still, there’s no denying they’re in a more comfortable position now.
They return to Premier League action on Wednesday night against Bournemouth, before shifting focus to their FA Cup semi-final clash with Chelsea next Sunday.
With games against Tottenham, Burnley and West Ham still to come, they’re edging closer to confirming their place in the top flight for another year.
Farke might be keeping his players grounded, but Leeds can feel quietly confident about their chances of staying up.
