England moved one step closer to ending 60 years of hurt by booking their place in the World Cup semi-finals on Saturday evening.

They were far from their fluent best, but a determined display was enough to edge past Norway 2-1 after extra time in the searing Miami heat.

Jude Bellingham scored both goals to inspire England to victory, setting up a semi-final showdown with defending champions Argentina on Wednesday.

The match was not without controversy. VAR ruled out a Norway goal in the second half for a foul in the build-up, while England were also left frustrated after a penalty decision was overturned.

Despite England’s victory, the result left one former Leeds United star absolutely furious, and it led to Roy Keane reigniting an ancient feud.

Roy Keane takes brutal swipe at Alfie Haaland

Alfie Haaland was left fuming by some of the refereeing decisions during the game and insisted that Norway were robbed by the officials in Miami on Saturday night.

He insisted that despite Jude Bellingham’s brilliance, the referees were the ones responsible for England reaching the semi-finals at the expense of Norway.

Gary Neville, showing the instincts of an experienced broadcaster, brought up Alfie Haaland’s comments on the latest episode of Stick to Football, fully aware they were likely to provoke a reaction from Roy Keane.

The former Manchester United captain deliberately injured the then Manchester City star after carrying a grudge against him for years.

Haaland and Keane share a bitter relationship that never repaired, and the former Premier League star feigned ignorance at first when Neville spoke about the Norwegian and his comments.

The former Manchester United star conceded that England got all the big calls from the referee, but he doesn’t agree that it cost Norway the game.

He also alluded to Haaland’s drinking habit to suggest that he would not remember half the incidents that happened during the game.

Neville said when asked about Haaland’s post-match comments: “Who? His [Erling] dad?

“I think the referee was giving England a lot of calls.

“No, no [reacting to Neville alluding to his relationship with Alfie].

“There were 50-50s, the lads were clashing, and he seemed to be on the side of England, which can happen in a game.

“I am not sitting here and going, he has cost Norway, absolutely not.

“Would he remember the game because he seemed to be drinking during the matches?”

Alfie Haaland couldn’t help himself on Saturday evening

Erling Haaland inspired Norway’s remarkable run to the World Cup quarter-finals, and his father, Alfie Haaland, has been a familiar presence in the stands throughout the tournament.

The former Leeds United star wore his emotions on his sleeve during the quarter-final, making no secret of his frustration with several of the referee’s decisions.

When Norway had a goal ruled out, Haaland reacted angrily from the stands, appearing to vent his frustration towards the match officials.

He also gestured that Djed Spence had gone down too easily to win a penalty before VAR overturned the decision, and was later seen directing gestures towards the England camp.
